Colorado Incentives Now Fund EV Charging Outlets for Multifamily

Colorado’s EV market is growing quickly, and a new multifamily EV charging grant for 2026 offers a practical path for property owners to support residents who charge at home. Colorado’s Clean Cars standard directs manufacturers to sell 82% electric vehicles by model year 2032, making resident charging a growing priority for apartment owners, operators, and developers.

Charge Ahead Colorado’s May funding round includes a new outlet incentive for assigned multifamily parking.

Are your Colorado properties EV ready?

Charge Ahead Colorado Incentive Program

The Charge Ahead Colorado program is designed to support EV charging installation, removing the cost barriers to meeting building codes that require onsite charging. Whether you want to provide low-power, dedicated charging or rapid, shared charging on your property, Charge Ahead enables cost-savings on EV charging installations across your portfolio.

This round of funding is open from May 11 - June 12, 2026, and includes an exciting update: a new outlet incentive for deeded and assigned parking. For multifamily owners, this creates a new path to fund charging where many residents actually park: in their assigned space.

Charge Ahead Colorado’s May round includes incentives up to $250K per property or $500K per portfolio for both EVSEs and newly included EV Outlets:
Incentive Standard Funding Income-Qualified Properties
EV Outlet $1,250 per port $1,750 per port
EVSE $5,000 per port $7,000 per port

Additional program details:

  • Outlet projects require installation at a minimum of 20% of assigned spaces, or at least 8 outlets.
  • Minimum match is generally 20%, reduced to 10% for qualifying entities.
  • Outlets and EVSEs can be combined in the same Standard or Portfolio application.
  • Costs must be incurred after receiving an executed grant award to be eligible for funding.

Why This Matters for Multifamily

For years, multifamily EV charging incentives have only applied to traditional, shared EVSEs. While EVSEs may be the right solution for some properties, they are often too expensive, require infrastructure upgrades, and aren’t designed for residential charging behavior.

Most residents do not need the fastest charger every night. They need dependable access where they park.  Outlet-based charging can create a scalable path to resident charging because it can reduce cost per resident served, simplify installation, and expand charging coverage across more parking spaces.

For shared, guest, high-turnover, or amenity parking, faster EVSEs may be the better fit.

Outlets and EVSEs both have a role. Orange helps identify the right mix for each property.
