EV charging rebates are incentives that help offset the cost of installing EV charging equipment at multifamily properties. Santa Barbara Clean Energy's Charge Up SB program provides properties with funding for Level 1 and Level 2 outlets, EVSEs, panel upgrades, make ready infrastructure, and power management hardware/software.
Properties may receive up to $2,500 per outlet, $4,500 per EVSE, $5,000 per panel, and $2,000 per terminated circuit for make ready infrastructure upgrades (maximum award of $60,000, capped at 75% of total project costs). Affordable housing developments may receive up to $3,000 per outlet, $5,500 per EVSE, $5,000 per panel, and $2,000 per terminated circuit for make ready infrastructure upgrades (maximum award of $60,000, capped at 100% of total project costs). Make-ready circuit upgrades are capped at 10 per site.
A smart outlet is a dedicated Level 1 or Level 2 charging outlet assigned to a resident's parking space, ideal for overnight charging. An EVSE is a hardwired, higher-powered unit better suited for shared or guest parking. Most multifamily properties benefit from a mix of both.
